Caldwell Park Expansion Project

The City of Redding Community Services Department secured grant funding to begin a large renovation and expansion project at Caldwell Park through the Prop 68 Statewide Parks Program specifically designed for developing park amenities. The proposed project includes a new skate park (completed in June 2022), the new Redding Bike Park, exercise equipment, new courts, lighting, restrooms, and more.

Along with the skate park (which opened in June 2022), the new Bike Park is the most transformative part of the larger Caldwell Park Restoration Project, adding new park acreage for Redding’s residents and a place to grow skills for success on the trails being built in our community.  The paved pump track will be around 10,000 feet. It will feature three jump lines with increasing difficulty and contains optional lines to keep things interesting and prioritize skill development. The park also includes a drop zone for practicing riding off obstacles and a skills trail for learning mountain bike skills such as creek crossings and rocky descents. The bike park will also include a plaza, shade structure, landscaping, parking improvements, public art, and much more.

The bike park is geared mostly toward older youth, teens, and adults but some features will be youth friendly, like the skills trail, loop trail, and pump track.  A Junior Bike Park for skills building in preparation for the new bike park was built in Caldwell Park in 2018 (and was the first beneficiary of our Vine & Dine Fundraiser in 2018).

This exciting project continues the City of Redding’s tradition of building bike facilities along the river trail (FB trail, Lower Salt Creek, Salt Creek Heights, etc.) and helps to cement Redding as a trail town that is really pushing hard to support the culture. The future Redding Bike Park will host events and so much more.

The Foundation will be raising money for the new Redding Bike Park at our annual 2023 Vine & Dine for Parks event on May 11, 2023.  The Bike Park is part of the larger Caldwell Park Restoration Project and was in fact one of the driving factors behind the grant application being selected enabling this large project to move forward. The Foundation is especially excited to raise these funds in collaboration with the Redding Trail Alliance, who were instrumental in the design of the Redding Bike Park project and grant application.
